The graduate programs of the Department of Business Administration under the Graduate Education Institute of Bartın University include three master’s degree programs (two thesis-based and one non-thesis) and one doctoral program. These programs aim to equip not only graduates of business-related undergraduate programs, but also graduates from other disciplines, with the knowledge and skills that open the doors to the business world. They are designed to contribute to the academic development of individuals working or planning to work in the public or private sector after their undergraduate education, to educate future academic staff for universities, and to support entrepreneurs who wish to establish their own businesses.
Communication and information technologies are rapidly developing worldwide, while economic relations among countries continue to expand. This has intensified competition in the business world. Therefore, expectations from employees are constantly increasing. There is a growing need for active professionals equipped with sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge in their fields. Our student candidates from different academic backgrounds will also be provided with the latest theoretical knowledge, skills, competencies, and practical applications.

Our graduate courses have rich and comprehensive content. Some of these courses include management philosophy, economics, finance, accounting, marketing, production management, international business, strategy, innovation, quantitative methods, and organizational management. Our courses particularly focus on quantitative approaches and analytical problem-solving techniques for decision-making in business life.
The objective is to educate leaders who possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, can think critically and creatively, have effective communication skills, are able to work in teams, take initiative, and manage risk and change effectively.
Our graduates may work in middle- and upper-level managerial or specialist positions in areas such as human resources, marketing, production, accounting, and finance in public and private sector institutions. They may also become entrepreneurs by establishing their own businesses.
The program consists of seven courses, one of which is compulsory. Students who successfully complete all courses and achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 proceed to the thesis stage. Students who successfully defend their thesis before a jury are awarded a master’s degree diploma. The maximum duration of the program is three years.

The non-thesis distance education master’s program in Business Administration is conducted through the virtual environment established under the Distance Education Application and Research Center (BUZEM) of Bartın University. Instructors and students meet in virtual classrooms during courses. The program consists of ten courses and a term project. The minimum completion period is two semesters, and the maximum period is three semesters. Students enrolled in the non-thesis master’s program may transfer to the thesis master’s program, provided that they meet the requirements determined for the thesis-based program.
The aim of the PhD program in Business Administration is to provide students with the ability to conduct independent research, interpret scientific issues from a broad and in-depth perspective, and determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses.
For students admitted with a bachelor’s degree, the program consists of fourteen courses; for those admitted with a master’s degree, it consists of at least seven courses and one seminar, in addition to advisory and specialization courses taken separately during coursework and thesis periods.
Students who complete their coursework take the doctoral qualifying examination. Those who pass the examination are assigned a thesis monitoring committee and are required to present a dissertation proposal to the committee. Students whose proposals are accepted proceed to prepare their dissertations. The dissertation must contribute innovation to science, develop a new scientific method, or apply an existing method to a new field.
Upon completion, doctoral students defend their dissertations before a jury. Students who successfully pass the defense are awarded the title of Doctor (PhD). The maximum duration of the doctoral program is six years for students admitted with a master’s degree and seven years for those admitted with a bachelor’s degree.
